Hiking trips to the Auvergne
On sunny days, the surroundings of La Bourboule, from the Massif du Sancy to the winding course of the Dordogne river, offers a range of natural sensations. The flora is particularly luxurious on these volcanic grounds.
Wherever you turn your head, Mother Nature has worked wonders in all her vitality and invites you to discover this wonderland. From a simple walk in the Parc Fenestre, as you descend the slopes of the Mont-Dore resort by mountain bike, the Auvergne volcanos region will surprise you.
There are plenty of activities for you to discover at different paces, but nothing beats a hike up the heights of the Puy de Sancy. The cable car is a pleasant and easy way to explore the Puy du Sancy, the highest peak in the Massif Central. Once you reach the station at the top, there are only 860 wooden steps to climb before you reach the very top of the Auvergne at 1886 metres.
A detour more towards the south will allow you to enjoy the exceptional view of the famed Chaîne des Puys. The Auvergne well and truly should be explored vertically.
The region also has plenty of other activities to enjoy. Spend your time encountering the legendary Puy de Dôme, visiting the Vulcania park, trying zip-wiring or via-ferrata, going horse-riding, swimming in the lakes or aquatics centre, going paragliding, riding the Capucin funicular, seeing the waterfalls, visiting the quaint Bergerie, or riding a cross-country electric scooter.
